Individual mailboxes are not explicitly covered by the Meadows HOA bylaws, however implicitly, mailboxes are expected to be maintained in a manner consistant with the Meadows bylaws regarding the maintenance and aesthetic value of individual lots as they relate to the community as a whole.  Below you will find the USPS requirements and the HOA Board's recommendations regarding mailboxes.

Requirements

The United States Postal Service requires that customers keep the approach to their mailbox clear of obstructions.  If USPS employees are impeded in reaching a mail receptacle, the postmaster may withdrawal delivery service.

Mail receptacles may only be used for material bearing postage.  No mail receptacle may be used to deliver matter not bearing postage, including items attached to, hung from, or inserted into a mail receptacle with the exception of a newspaper delivered by a private courier.  Newspapers must be placed in a newspaper receptacle.

Every mail receptacle must bear an address number and be approved under USPS standards.

Recommendations

The HOA Architectural Committee strongly recommends polyethylene or aluminum rust-proof posts, over wooden posts, to avoid rot and to maintain the overall aesthetic appeal of the neighborhood.  Additionally, it is suggested that your mailbox color match the post's color and that both reflect the trim color found in your existing home, i.e. black or white, whenever possible.  If the mailbox has decorative trim, it is suggested that it match the hardware of your front door, i.e. silver or brass, to maintain the cohesive appearance of your lot.  Examples of acceptable mailboxes and posts are found below.  For more information on updating or replacing your current mailbox, including constructing a brick or stone mailbox, please contact your HOA board HERE or submit an Exterior Alteration Application
